Farewell...T_T

Well, I've gotten tired of this blog and seems to me that no one reads it anyway (ouch). I've decided to bring Red Rhythms to a close, however I will not delete it, just discontinoue it. Here's a list of artists I never got to recommend:
Tegan & Sara - indie pop / indie rock
Fireflight - Christian rock
VersaEmerge - rock
Eyes Set To Kill - metalcore
Paper Route - indie rock
ketchup mania - Japanese rock (disbanded)
Dazzle Vision - Japanese rock
Billy Talent - rock
The Fire Restart - rock (unsigned, disbanded)
Green Day - rock
Linkin Park - hard rock (with some rap)

If you have any interest in Japanese music, this is a great site (though it's probably preferrable to just download for free): http://www.japanfiles.com/
Maybe in the future I'll come back on here and make a post, but unless that happens, I'm gone.

The Joy Formidable

I don't know anyone who's heard of this band. In fact the way I found them was I saw them in an article in a SPIN magazine, and out of curiosity I searched them on YouTube. The Joy Formidable is a three-piece indie rock band from Wales. I feel the need to say that their lead singer Ritzy Bryan (that's right, I said Ritzy) has an interesting voice (in a good way)...and she's just so cute! Honestly, I can't say I'm a fan of this band since I've only heard two of their songs, but I wanted to recommend them anyway. The songs I like are Whirring and Cradle. The Whirring video is good, but Cradle is kind of weird for me. So...go listen to them.

Review: Everybody's Fool - Evanesence

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck1-blT820s

(Don't be put off by the fake commercial at the beginning, it's part of the video). This video really touched home with me a little because it features Amy Lee trying to be "pretty" and/or "perfect" and hating both that idolized "perfection" and the pain it causes her. I like how this video is so exaggerated but so true to life at the same time (does that make sense?). The song is really good, too. Four out of five stars.

My Chemical Romance

I just recently got into My Chemical Romance and I CANNOT stop listening. With a recently departed drummer and four studio albums to date, the rock band has changed it's style a few times in the past, but remain excellent one way or another. The band is against being labelled "emo" (by critics, haters, etc.), so please don't call them that :P. Guitarist Frank Iero has a side project band called Leathermouth and is a former member of Pencey Prep. The video for The Ghost of You (awesome song, by the way) almost made me cry,and that kind of stuff never gets to me...ever. I couldn't pick a favourite song by these guys, that's how epic they are (is "epic" overused? Whatevs). I'm sure you can find an MCR song to suit your current emotion, and it'll feel damn good!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, or YYYs as they're often abbreviated, are an indie rock band of three that are not afraid to be different. I find the meaning to their lyrics hard to understand, but once you figure it out you're like "Ohhhhh" ;). Singer Karen O's voice is definitley loud and proud, as is her fashion sense. She has a side project of only her called Native Korean Rock, as she's half Korean. Guitarist Nick Zinner also has a side project, called Head Wound City. YYYs music usually has a distorted sound to it, which means I can describe it as "electric rock" (or however you wanna put it). My favourite YYY songs are Maps and Zero (the video for Zero is good too, looks like fun). I'll look forward to a fourth album if they have that planned, but for now, let's enjoy shall we?

Tokio Hotel

Just feel I need to say this before you start believing rumours: THEY'RE NOT GAY AND THEY'RE NOT ASIAN AND THEY'RE 100% MALE, LEAVE THEM ALONE. They're a catchy pop/rock band from Germany, with songs and albums in both English and German. My favourite songs are World Behind My Wall and Schrei (the German...or rather original version of Scream). Tokio Hotel have become more pop-like then they were before, but I still like 'em. Their lyrics are great and they've never changed their lineup. Their songs are good to dance to or to just chill.

P.S. Isn't it ironic that they're called TOKIO Hotel yet they're from GERMANY? Hehe...

Story of the Year

Story of the Year, formerly called Big Blue Monkey, is an excellent rock band with four albums to date. They to a lot of songs about things that matter and that try to get people's attention in order to spread a message. Lead singer Dan Marsala has an awesome voice and he and his bandmates certainly have talent. My favourite song of their's is Wake Up (I did a lyric video for it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZyFbEPGeRY&feature=feedu ), but I'm Alive and Terrified are right up there. They're worth listening to, so run along...listen.

Paramore

Paramore is my absolute favourite band and I reviewed one of their videos in a previous post. They're a sort of pop-punk/rock/alternative band, with five members and three studio albums (they're working on a fourth, yay!). Personally, I think that their second album called Riot! is better than thier debut, All We Know is Falling, and their third album, Brand New Eyes, is better than Riot!. You can see why I'm excited for the fourth album. Unfortunately two of the band's founding members, lead guitarist/backing vocalist Josh Farro and drummer Zac Farro, recently left the band. But Hayley Williams (who is featured in the B.o.B song Airplanes), Jeremy Davis and Taylor York will continue on. Paramore is full of energy and creativity and I am waiting for the day they come to Victoria!

Flyleaf

Flyleaf is one of my favourite bands. They are sort of a mix of metal and hard rock, but they do have soft songs. They're often considred a Christian rock band because all the members are Christian and so their lyrics have Christian elements. They have two albums and a recent EP and I'm hoping for another album sometime! Their songs are each so different and honest (I have every one of their songs on my ipod). An interesting fact: the bassist Pat Seals did the artwork for two of their videos (Beautiful Bride, Again) and their second album (Memento Mori). Another fact: the lead singer Lacey Sturm is featured in the Apocalyptica song Broken Pieces, which I totally recommend (she's also pregnant, yay!). Yep, pretty awesome band.

Review: Brick By Boring Brick - Paramore

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A63VwWz1ij0

This is a really great song and a really great band (who I'll recommend later on) and a really good video. It's very fantasy-like but has a dark ending. I don't know if the ending is supposed to have a message, but if it did I didn't get it. When I showed my friend this video she thought it was really weird and creepy and she thought the werewolf guy was a perverted pedophile. I'll agree that it does have some strange elements to it, but strange isn't always a bad thing, right? (Former) lead guitarist Josh Farro compared the video to the movie Pan's Labyrinth. I really enjoyed this video and it's one of my favourites from Paramore. Four out of five stars.
